Y’know, I’ve been screaming about a lack of common sense in D.C. for quite some time now, particularly since January 20th. Here’s yet another example of mental retardation that seems prevelant in the nations capital.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), probably the most worthless and useless speaker in the nation’s history has done it again! A good many of you may have heard about this one, some may have not, but it made the Washington Times again yesterday.
You know that “stimulus” money that we were told was going to be spent to create “shovel ready jobs” that nobody has seen yet, but we were supposed to hurry up and pass the bill because our economy depended on it? Yeah! That stimulus, the very same one that hasn’t created any “shovel ready” jobs. Well, good old Nancy Pelosi managed to get 16.1 million dollars of it spent! But… not exactly for “shovel ready” jobs, but hey! She brought home the pork to her biggest constituency. Mice.
Yup! Mice, as in the pesky rodent. The very same rodent that is related to the rat, the very same rodent that carries disease and sickness, some carry the lethal hanta virus which kills humans, and there is no cure or treatment for it. The very same mice that will cause the Health Department to close your business and even condem it.
The Obama administration revealed last week that as much as $16.1 million from the stimulus program is going to save the San Francisco Bay Area habitat of, among other things, the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse.
That has revived Republican criticism that the pet project was an “invisible earmark” in the massive spending bill for Mrs. Pelosi, whose San Francisco district abuts the Bay, and epitomizes what Republicans say is the failure of stimulus spending so far to help an economy still shedding jobs.
If that 16.1 million dollars was put back in the Treasury we’d be 16.1 million dollars closer to balancing the budget. But no, nevermind that, we have to make sure that mice get their “fair share”.
“Lo and behold, the government has announced that the mouse is getting its money after all,” House Minority Leader John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, said, standing beside a poster of the furry varmint. “Speaker Pelosi must be so proud.”

If you do a little research I believe you will discover that the 16.1 dollars was part of an overall restoration project for the San Francisco bay area that also included some funding for habitat protection for this cute little critter. The republicans are notorious for grabbing onto something like this and portraying it as 16.1 million spent on a mouse. Boehner may have thought it made for a cute moment on the floor of the Senate but it comes across as embarrasing as your photo-shopped picture of Speaker Pelosi. It smacks of desperation and I would rather see the Republican party focus on compromises and alternative solutions rather than this cheap form of political thaetrics. Isn’t that why we have a two party system???
